Kitui Governor Julius Malombe has chosen not to operate from the office that was used by his predecessor Charity Ngilu.

On Tuesday, Malombe visited the county headquarters for the first time since his election.

During the visit, Kitui Catholic dioceses bishop Joseph Mwongela conducted prayers.

However, the governor avoided entering the county headquarters annex office previously occupied by Ngilu after brief prayers outside the building.

He instead led Bishop Mwongela prayer team to an office in the main block where sources said he prefers.

The bishop sprinkled holy water in the office, stairways, parking yard and the official vehicles to be used by the governor.

The prayers that were attended by members of the committee on the assumption of office were held at an office on the 2nd floor of the main building.

In a short speech after the prayers, Malombe stressed that Kenya is a God-fearing country.

“We are God-fearing leaders and we will always invoke the name of the God to guide us in whatever we do,” Malombe said.

Later, Malombe held his first cabinet meeting at the nearby Kitui Kenya Forestry Research Institute as opposed to the board room adjacent to the governor’s office previously used by Ngilu.

Bishop Mwongela called for unity and cooperation from all leaders and residents to make Kitui great.

“Let's give the governor an easy time to lead our county to prosperity,” Mwongela said.
