Wiper's Mwalika reclaims Kitui Rural MP seat

Mwalika walloped his only challenger Charles Nyamai of UDA by garnering 19,735 votes against Nyamai's 10,178.

David Mwalaika recueved a certificate from the Kitui Rural returning officer Winfred Ndoti after the latter declared him the winner of the of the August 29,2002 elections.

Wiper Party's David Mwalika has retained his seat at the Kitui Rural MP.

Mwalika walloped his only challenger Charles Nyamai of UDA by garnering 19,735 votes against Nyamai's 10,178.

The results  were announced by the constituency returning officer Wilfred Ndoti at the South Eastern Kenya tallying centre a few minutes past 2 am on Tuesday.

The total votes cast was 33,089 out of the 55,000 registered voters.

At an event witnessed by the Kitui County returning officer Macharia Gichichi,  Ndoti announced that 166 votes were spoilt.

The voter turnout was at 54.7 per cent.

At hand to witness as Mwalika was handed the victory certificate was the Ukambani parliamentary group chair Benson Makali Mulu who is also Kitui Central MP.

Others present were Kitui Senator Enoch Wambua and the county woman MP.

Mwingi North MP Paul Nzengu and his Mwingi West counterpart Charles Nguna were also present.
