South Imenti MP candidate Shadrack Mwiti has pledged to establish cottage industries to create jobs and to solve rising food prices.

He said his main agenda is for residents to access clean water, quality health services, education, business skills and markets.

The Jubilee candidate spoke during the launch of his manifesto on Sunday evening.

The 40-page document also highlights developments Mwiti has actualised in the six wards.

Mwiti said industries are crucial for any community desiring growth and sustainable incomes for its people.

He said the community must gradually reduce over-dependence on agriculture and increase dependence on industry and value addition.

"The Asian Tigers of Singapore, Taiwan, South Korea and Hong Kong did not develop to their current status by just praying for developments.

"Their governments made short, medium and long term plans to move from traditional subsistence agriculture to the advanced economies they are today,” Mwiti said.

The candidate said he will lay such foundations to to create jobs for youths and reduce poverty.

Mwiti said his development projects will be people centred and labour intensive, to absorb the many school leavers in the constituency.

He said he will build banana, juice, cassava and honey processing factories.

The candidate also said he will set up a boda boda spare parts factory to transform livelihoods.

He urged all residents to support his bid and help alleviate poverty.

“As your MP and with your support. I will provide servant leadership. I will use all my energy, business skills, intellectual abilities, and my local and international connections to make South Imenti a shining example in Kenya.

"I have no doubt with focus and determination, the socio-economic future must be great,” Mwiti said.

The candidate however faces stiff competition from Gideon Kimathi of Governor Kiraitu Murungi's Mbus party and Mwiti Kathaara of UDA.
