Politicians who incite Kenyans will be disqualified from the August election, the National Cohesion and Integration Commission has said.

NCIC deputy director civic education and advocacy, Kilian Nyambu, said in partnership with other commissions, they will monitor utterances by politicians that could endanger peace.

Nyambu said the NCIC in conjunction with IEBC and Registrar of Political Parties have advised aspirants on the importance of promoting peace during and after elections.

The deputy director spoke on Friday in Embu town during a peace walk organised by the University of Embu Amani club and other stakeholders aimed at advocating for a peaceful election.

However, he said aspirants who will engage in incitement and conflicts will face the law.

“NCIC, EACC and other relevant bodies will ensure we hold accountable conflict inciters by preventing them from vying for any seat,” he said.

Nyambu encouraged Kenyans to take the centre stage in promoting peace.

“Most of the politicians you fight for are only using you to get power and will later abandon you. We need each other before, during and after the election,” he said.

The NCIC is in charge of promoting national identity and values.

It helps in mitigating ethnopolitical conflicts and violence, discrimination based on race and religion and promoting national reconciliation.

Amani club secretary James Mureithi urged youths to decline any call from the political class to engage in violence.

He said that youths have been used in the past to cause mayhem in the country and that’s why they joined the University of Embu Amani club to sensitise the people of Embu against violence.
