Kikuyu musician Edward Irungu Njaro, well known with his stage name Wanjaro Junior, died from drowning, a postmortem on Thursday showed.
Pathologist Dr Phillis Muhonja said the trachea examination showed Njaro's airways had been obstructed. The postmortem was conducted at Embu Level Five Hospital mortuary.
Dr Muhonja said the musician had been dead three days before his body was found.
Family members said Njaro disappeared on Wednesday, July 14. His body was found four days later in Masinga dam in Embu county.
The pathologist said the body had no physical injuries and the clothes were identified by Njaro’s relatives.
Dr Muhonja also said that some of the body parts had started decomposing.
The body has been moved to Kenyatta National Hospital mortuary.
Some sources suggested the musician jumped into River Sagana over a failure to settle a Sh700,000 debt. His car was found at the bridge of River Sagana.
“When I’ll go missing don’t waste a lot of time looking for me. My body will be in River Sagana,” an alleged suicide note read.
The body may have been carried by river waters to the Masinga Dam.
The musician was the only surviving child of Wanjaro family. 'Wendo ni mugeria' was among his most popular songs.
He is survived by his widow and two children. Edward Irungu was a brother of the late popular Kikuyu secular musician George Wanjaro who died in 2007.
Since George Wanjaro’s death, his widow Maureen Atieno says that her in-laws have isolated and disinherited her.
