AMEND BBI

We'll trash BBI if Mwingi does not become county, says Wambua

He says it was the key proposal Kitui residents made to the BBI task force

In Summary

• Senator Were urged the government to focus on the surging numbers of Covid-19 infections and deaths instead of BBI.

• Laikipia's Nderitu Kinywa said all divergent issues must be included in BBI.

Kitui residents will reject the BBI report if it does not recommend the carving out of Mwingi county from the expansive devolved unit, Senator Enoch Wambua has warned.

“BBI was not drafted for Raila Odinga. Residents ought to participate in amending the document in order to ensure their needs are included in the report,” Wambua said.

The senator said the creation of Mwingi county was among key proposals Kitui residents made to the BBI task force and there was no way they would accept the report if their wishes were not factored in.

He spoke during a visit of Nguuku location by the Senate ICT Committee.

He at the same time said that Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka will be on the presidential ballot in 2022 irrespective of the BBI outcome.

His views were echoed by Mwingi North MP Paul Nzengu, who said the BBI report must not be forced on Kenyans without necessary amendments.

Laikipia Senator Nderitu Kinywa said all divergent issues must be included in BBI.

According to him, the report shouldn’t be sugarcoated to lure innocent Kenyans as anything harmful in it would be dangerous to all.

Nominated Senator Petronilla Were urged the government to focus  on the surging numbers of Covid-19 infections and deaths instead of BBI.
