• Suspect is first wife's third born son,

A 60-year old man died on the spot in Makueni after he was allegedly shot with an arrow by his son in a domestic quarrel over land.

The assailant, aged 35, also attacked and injured his step-brother with a panga on the head during the Wednesday night incident at Masalani village in Makindu subcounty. He is still at large.

"He also set body on fire as well as his house," county police commander Joseph Napeiyan said.

The injured, Boniface Mutie, 21, is being treated at Makindu Subcounty Hospital.

Makindu police moved the charred remains of the deceased to the morgue in the same facility.

"We have mounted a search to arrest the suspect who fled towards an unknown direction," Napeiyan said.

Assistant chief Shadrack Musembi said the deceased had two wives who have been embroiled in a tussle over his land.

Second wife Florence Kimula said the assailant, the son of the first wife, has been demanding a share of his father's land.

She said her husband had said he would never subdivide the land to the sons of his first wife because "they had not been caring for him."

"He had said that he bought the land and would not witness land which is not hereditary being sub-divided to benefit his sons since they had neglected him," Kimula told the Star in an interview.

She had been married to him for 26 years.

She said the suspect is the third born of the first wife who was unavailable for comment.
