Mbeere South constituency has been neglected for decades and lags behind in development, according to area member of Parliament.

Geoffrey King'ang'i said compared to others in the county and other parts of the country, a lot needs to be done to bring the constituency on equal footing with the rest.

The MP said almost half of the schools are mud-walled, and so are many homes. Security has been bad due to lack of enough police officers. Water and other basic necessities are also scarce.

He was speaking at at the constituency office in Kiritiri town yesterday when he launched a four-year strategic plan based on the National Government Constituency Development Fund (NGCDF).

“We have been abused and also disinherited of our resources. It means we have been thrown outside and completely abandoned as if we have no value. We have been misused,” King'ang'i said.

The MP said natural resources in his constituency are taken away to benefit other areas.

NO TITLE DEEDS

Two-thirds of the constituents do not have title deeds. This has resulted in many conflicts, deaths and general insecurity.

He many people have been displaced from the lands for lack of land documents and that school dropouts rate is so high.

King'ang'i emphasised the need public participation in matters that affected the public.
