Kilifi, 4Life Solutions launch solar water purifiers for safe drinking

Kilifi County and 4Life Solutions have partnered to launch a solar-powered water purification initiative targeting vulnerable communities.

The project will distribute purification devices to households, schools, and markets to curb waterborne diseases.

Deputy Governor Flora Mbetsa Chibule witnessed the signing.

Those present included Caroline Kagendo Githinji, Managing Director Africa of 4Life Solutions, CEO Jonas Pilgaard, Board Member Daniel Rugholm, Kilifi CEC for Water Omar Said, County Strategy Director Charles Kamau, and other county officials.

The pilot project will distribute solar purification units to 1,000 households, 20 schools, and 20 open-air markets.

It includes baseline and endline surveys to track adoption, health outcomes, and plans for scale-up.

“This partnership with Kilifi County is a beacon of what’s possible when innovation meets government leadership,” said Githinji, Managing Director for Africa of 4Life Solutions.

“Together, we’re not just distributing water devices, we’re building resilience and dignity through access to safe drinking water.”

On her part, deputy governor Chibule said Kilifi is proud to lead as a frontrunner in private sector partnerships that deliver real value to communities.

"We welcome initiatives like this that align with our commitment to health, sustainability, and the empowerment of our people," she said.

The pilot includes training for over 150 local personnel and community integration.

The implementation will start this month (July).
