Blazers clinch KHU title after win over Lakers

League champions Butali ended with a 2-2 draw against Western Jaguars to cap off the season.

Blazers outshone Lakers with a stunning 4-0 victory in their last women's Premier League match of the season at City Park on Sunday.

The win saw Blazers seal the title with 37 points from 14 matches.

Lakers finished second with 26 points, USIU 'A' took the bronze medal with 24 points and Strathmore University ranked fourth with 19

It was back-to-back wins for Blazers, who dismantled Kenyatta University 5-0 on Saturday, solidifying their title credentials.

Blazers coach Rose Mbula praised her team's approach, stating: "Denying our opponent possession was crucial. Of significance is sticking to our game plan."

Blazers' Beverly Akoth broke the deadlock in the 20th minute as Audrey Omaido made it 2-0 in the 27th minute.

Eleanor Chebet and Maureen Okumu sealed the victory with goals in the 32nd and 51st minutes respectively.

Mbula added: "This win means a lot to us. It's a morale booster. We have managed what we failed to do last year."

Coach Mbula praised top scorer Maureen Okumu, who had 12 goals and goalkeeper Alice Wanjiru, who conceded only three goals.

She expressed the team's excitement, stating: "We will get together as a team and see how best to celebrate this win. Eeveryone is in a very jolly mood."

She emphasised the importance of understanding each player's game culture and blending in with the team.

"Just let the team know you are a part of them. It is not advisable to seclude oneself just because you are a coach. Blend in with the players."

Lakers coach Bramuel Opembe acknowledged the team's determination and motivation for a comeback next season.

Opembe stated: "All is not lost. We are more determined and highly motivated for a comeback next season."

He was grateful for finishing second, insisting on the importance of offering equal opportunity for the players.

He promised to work on their defensive lapses and being clinical with chances created.

Butali sealed the men's Premier League title with 44 points in 18 matches following a season-ending 2-2 draw with Western Jaguars 41 points in 18 matches. 

Meanwhile, Kenya Police humiliated Sikh Union 6-0 to finish third with 33 points from 18 matches. Sikh Union had 19 points to finish seventh.

The University of Nairobi men's side suffered a 2-1 defeat to Kisii Falcons at Impala.
