Public Service CS Moses Kuria has praised Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua for his efforts in fighting illicit brew in Mt Kenya.

He urged local administrators to remain vigilant and report unlicensed businesses.

The CS spoke on Tuesday in Kenol town, Murang’a county, during the burial of Moses Kang'ethe, a former political adviser of ex-Governor Mwangi wa Iria.

"I would like to appreciate DP Gachagua for his continuous fight against illicit brew and drugs in Mt Kenya. We will join hands as Kenya Kwanza administration to combat this menace in our society," Kuria said.

He warned chiefs, assistant chiefs and police officers against taking bribes from lawbreakers.

Kuria spoke days after at least 17 people died after consuming contaminated brew in Kangai, Kirinyaga county.

Gachagua is expected to attend the mass burial service of the victims on Saturday.

Last week, Gachagua ordered the transfer of top police officers and national government officers in Kirinyaga over the deaths.

Four police officers have been arraigned in connection with the theft and sale of illicit brew, which resulted in the Kangai deaths.

Former Officer Commanding Station at Kiamaciri police station is among those facing legal repercussions.

According to reports, the accused police officers allegedly broke into a store at Kiamaciri police station in Mwea West, stole the exhibit liquor and sold it to a local trader.

During an interview on Inooro TV on Sunday, Spouse of Deputy President, Dorcas Rigathi, said the government plans to establish health villages across all counties.

She said these health villages are envisioned as comprehensive setups, encompassing medical facilities equipped with essential amenities.

Pastor Dorcas said they will have rehabilitation centres, talent development centres, sports academies, polytechnics, churches and agribusiness facilities.

"Everyone comes from a village and that is why we are ready to establish health villages where our children will be accommodated back into society once they recover after rehabilitation," she said.
