Former Kiambu Governor William Kabogo has for the first time opened up on how President William Ruto reacted when he accused him of helping rig him out of Jubilee party polls in 2017.
At the time, Ruto was the country's deputy president and was tasked with overseeing the party's nominations as retired President Uhuru Kenyatta sought re-election.
Speaking on Monday, Kabogo said after losing the Jubilee ticket to Ferdinand Waititu in 2017, he bitterly complained to Ruto who was overseeing the whole process.
According to him, there was a heated exchange as he laid blame on the then DP for "fixing him".
Ruto had been tasked with overseeing the party nomination process after many aspirants contested the outcomes of the party polls.
"About Waititu's time, I complained so bitterly to now the President (Ruto). I tried to blame him, then he was Deputy President and it got so heated and I told him you have fixed me because you are the one who came to Jubilee house when things didn't work on the first day, you came to take over," Kabogo.
He went on to note that President Ruto (then DP) said he understood what he was going through, and why he had reacted as he did.
Kabogo added that Ruto said he believed the former Kiambu governor knew the source of his woes before the DP asked him to leave him out of what had befallen him.
"He told me you know William I can feel you but I'm telling you, I know you know where your problems come from. I just want you to leave me alone on this matter, deep down you know."
Kabogo said at that point it dawned on him that maybe he was channelling his anger at an innocent person.
In that election, Kabogo went on to seek re-election as an Independent candidate but still lost to Ferdinand Waititu.
In the interview with Spice FM, Kabogo said his problems were caused by someone he thought was his friend, former President Uhuru Kenyatta.
He alleged that the former President was also behind an elaborate plan to deny him victory in the 2013 gubernatorial race.
Kabogo said that in the election Uhuru supported his main opponent, James Nyoro.
