Kilifi Governor Gideon Mung’aro has named his 10-member cabinet to help him implement his manifesto in the next five years.
He did not retain a single executive member from the previous administration.
Mung'aro also unveiled three task forces to look into the health sector, human resources and pending bills. The teams are expected to give him reports in two months.
The governor spoke outside his office. He was accompanied by his deputy Flora Chibule and MCAs.
The governor said Chibule's responsibilities are clear and in accordance with the Constitution.
“They include deputising the governor and the institution of the governor, coordinating external partnerships, linkages and development cooperations,” Mung'aro said.
He said Chibule shall also coordinate research, county government functions, development and implementation of ECDE policy and aid programmes.
In his cabinet, Mung'aro nominated Ruth Dama Masha as Gender, Social Services executive, Catherine Kenga (Public Works and Roads), while Omar Said Omar will head the Water and Environment docket if approved by the assembly.
In the Tourism and Trade docket, Mung’aro picked John Ngala, while Yaye Ahmed will head the Finance docket.
Others are Frankline Dena (Public Service and Disaster Management), Peter Mwarogo (Health) and Jane Mike Kamto (Lands and Physical Planning).
The Education and ICT docket will be headed by Clara Ningme Chonga, while Peterson Mwangoma will head the Agriculture department if approved.
Mung’aro appointed Joshua Mazera as his economic adviser and Henry Lunganje as the county attorney.
"The CECs will be working for the next two years and after that, we will review their performance to see whether they will be reappointed or replaced, so it depends on how hard they work to deliver for the people of Kilifi," he said.
He said the names of his cabinet members shall be submitted to the county assembly for vetting.
“We hope they will fast-track the programme so we can start working,” the governor said.
On the task forces, he said he wants them to assist him in administration and service delivery.
Mung'aro said the health task force shall identify the most appropriate structure for leadership and governance suitable for the county referral hospital and other health facilities.
“Examine ways and means of health service delivery in the county referral hospital and other county health facilities, identify ways of improving on the health infrastructure both physical and equipment to match a county referral hospital status, and address the human resource issues namely gap training needs, retention needs, staff development and all other aspects of capacity building,” he said.
The team shall also identify ways of improving and benefiting from partnerships with medical training institutions and universities, and enhance research.
The task force will be composed of Prof Rafiq Parker, Christopher Dennis Willson, Benjamin Tsofa, Tabu Ngala, Lorine Omondi, Dr Masha Mvera, Dr Abidan Mwachi, Captain Dr Isaac Makorani and Dr Osman Abdulahi.
The task force on human resources comprises Fadhil Athman, Jonathan Mativo, Martin Mwaro, Jackson Karisa, Terry Maitha, Damaris Malombe, Flora Kidere, Charles Shia and John Kenga Nyale.
Mung'aro also named the task force to look into pending bills. They include Alice Kinyua, Zaitun Mohamed, Albert Muturi, Dickson Gitonga, Daniel William, Veronica Wanjira, Emily Mulewa, Hazel Katana, Mwinyi Ali.
