Tana River Senator Danson Mungatana has appealed to President William Ruto to consider appointing people from the region to his government.

The senator is the latest in the growing list of leaders who have expressed their dissatisfaction over their counties being left out of the cabinet nominee slots made by Ruto last week.

Speaking in Madogo on Saturday during a thanksgiving ceremony, Mungatana said while they voted for Ruto, they were disappointed that no one from the county was considered for the Cabinet Secretary position.

Of the 22 nominees, the President picked two Coast leaders—Kilifi's Aisha Jumwa for Public Service and Kwale's Salim Mvurya for the Mining docket.

Former Kilifi governor Amason Kingi was also elected Speaker of the Senate.

"Your excellency our people voted for you. In fact, we came second to Lamu in terms of percentage. We played a big role in forming this government so we would also wish to feel par of it," the UDA Senator said.

"You considered Kwale, Kilifi and our neighbours Garissa while we have no problem with that because they are our brothers and sisters, we are asking you to consider us in your subsequent appointments.

“You are yet to appoint Chief Administrative Secretaries, Principal  Secretaries and ambassadors, so we remain optimistic our people will find space in your government."

Mungatana further urged CS for Water nominee Alice Wahome to work round the clock to revive the Bura and Hola irrigation schemes which have dwindled over the years.

"We are a very hard-working community and all we know is farming. unfortunately, lack of water has been our biggest undoing. we cannot continue being beggars and relying on relief food when we can do farming," he said.

Mungatana further said as legislators they will pass laws that will enable the formation of the Hustler Fund to unlock the potential of the youths with brilliant ideas to access cheap credit to do business.
