UDA leaders in Kilifi have congratulated President-Elect William Ruto and urged him to deliver his manifesto as he promised during campaigns.

Kilifi speaker Jimmy Kahindi and others who vied for different seats on a UDA ticket but lost in the August 9 polls said they had confidence in Ruto's leadership.

They assured Kilifi residents and Kenyans at large to get prepared for prosperity during his tenure.

Kahindi, who spoke outside the county assembly chambers on Tuesday, said Ruto's victory was historic.

"We are happy to be celebrating as residents of Kilifi. We thank God because it is through the grace of God that Ruto won. He's gone through a lot," he said.

Kahindi urged Kenyans to pray for Ruto because he is taking over the government during tough economic times.

He said it is time for Kenyans to ditch their political differences and unite to grow the economy.

"I'm confident he is going to deliver on his manifesto. God willing, he will be sworn in as the fifth president of Kenya on September 13 and we will be there celebrating," Kahindi said.

Kahindi thanked former Governor Amason Kingi and former Malindi MP Aisha Jumwa, whom he said campaigned hard for Ruto.

He was accompanied by Daniel Chiriba, Juliet Riziki, Phillip Mbaji, Stanley Kenga, among others who vied but lost in the election.

"We stood by you [Ruto] as a team during campaigns and will continue to stand by you as you steer the country to new heights," Chiriba said.

Riziki reminded Ruto to fulfil the promises he made to Kenyans, particularly women.

"When we were in Kasarani, we signed the women's charter and there was an agreement that upon forming his government, women would be given a 50/50 chance. Now that he has won, we remind him that we are watching him," she said.

Riziki urged Ruto to make sure the two-thirds gender rule is applied as there are many women who are ready to work with him.

Mbaji urged Ruto to appoint a Cabinet Secretary who will have the will to revive tourism on the Coast.

"Now that he is going to State House, we pray that the expectations of the coastal people, including the economy and port services, will be brought back for people to get jobs," he said.

Mbaji also appealed to the President-elect to compensate all coconut farmers in the Coast region who have suffered due to drought disaster.

Kenga asked Ruto to revive the economy and create jobs.
