Five ballot boxes were Wednesday morning delivered at the Kilifi North tallying centre without seals, raising credibility concerns.

The boxes from Bofa Primary polling centre were delivered at 1.40am by the Presiding officer with only the presidential ballot box sealed.

Members of the public raised concern when the Presiding officer attempted to seal the boxes at the tallying centre.

The officer said she failed to seal them because it was raining and the roof of the classroom which was used as a polling station was leaking.

"I have not tampered with the results. All the agents signed all the forms and witnessed everything," said the presiding officer.

Election laws require presiding officers to seal all ballot boxes with tamper proof clips after voting closes failure to which it amounts to an electoral offence.

The matter created tension at the tallying centre prompting two governor candidates to dash to the tallying centre.

ODM governor candidate Gideon Mung'aro and his Pamoja African Alliance Party George Kithi said they would not accept the results until the matter is settled.

Kilifi north returning officer Khamis Tsumo urged the candidates to give him time to seek clarification from the presiding officer.

The candidates also demanded for a recount to establish if the votes tally with the results on Form 34A.

However, the presiding officer could not produce the form claiming she had placed it in the sealed presidential ballot box.

Another returning officer from Korosho primary school tallying station brought one improperly sealed ballot box.

The ballot box for governor had only three seals while three other seals missing.

The presiding officer explained that she had not sealed the box because the seals were not enough.
