Police on Friday were investigating the murders of three men whose bodies were found in two abandoned cars in Nairobi and Mombasa.
Two bodies were found in a car in the Lucky Summer area of Ruaraka in Nairobi county.
Police said the car had been stolen from its owner.
A similar case was being probed in Mombasa where the body of another man was found in the rear seat of his vehicle parked by the roadside in Tudor area, Mombasa.
In Nairobi, the car owner told police it was stolen on May 21 and he reported the theft. He said the car had been parked outside his house from where it was stolen.
He was at the Lucky Summer police station on Thursday evening when a pedestrian known to him called. He informed him the man had spotted a similar car, but without its number plates, parked by the roadside.
The man and police rushed to the scene where he identified the car as his.
Inside they discovered two decomposing bodies that appeared to have been tortured.
They did not bear identification documents.
Starehe police boss Julius Kiragu said they are want to establish the motive and the perpetrators.
“We hope to find justice for this murder. They seem to have been tortured and killed elsewhere before the car was abandoned here,” he said.
Residents said they had seen the car since Thursday morning and thought there were occupants.
Police processed the scene and took the bodies to a mortuary pending postmortems and identification.
In Mombasa, the abandoned Toyota Voxy registration KDA 762F, is suspected to belong to the dead man.
Area residents said the car had been parked along the Kiziwi Road adjacent to theTudor Manyimbo cemetery since Wednesday night.
A resident identified only as Abdhalla said the vehicle had passed them that night at high sped.
“It was around 1am, we saw a vehicle passing by at a very high speed before it parked at that spot, about 150 metres from where we were seated,” he said.
Abdhalla said two men stepped out and walked away.
“We never bothered about anything because there was nothing suspicious. However, in the morning, when we discovered the car was still there, we called the police," he said.
Samir Bhalo, an aspirant for the Tudor ward seat, told the Star he received calls from residents about an abandoned car, so he went to the scene.
“Residents told me the car was parked there since 1am last night. I called the police who responded immediately," Bhalo said.
Police from Makupa police station arrived and discovered the body "sitting" in the back seat of the car.
They confirmed they had received calls from the village elder informing them of the abandoned car.
From observation, it seemed like the man was strangled, police said.
They said from the state of the body, it appeared the man could have been killed a day before and dumped there on Thursday night.
Police declined comment on the matter pending preliminary investigations and identification of the victim.
The body was taken to Coast General Teaching and Referral Hospital for a postmortem.
