More than 600 vulnerable families in Ganda, Malindi constituency have received food donations from a well-wisher to celebrate the festive season.

Oscar Wanje from Ganda supported the orphans, widows, people with disabilities and in Msabaha Baptist Church, he said he was happy to support the vulnerable.

He said in each of the four sublocations within Ganda,  they supported 150 orphans and widows.

“This idea came because we love our people, we are ready to serve them and we care about their welfare as team Oscar,” he said.

Wanje said they began the distribution exercise in Mere, Ganda, Msabaha and Kijiwetanga targeting mostly the orphans and widows.

He appealed to other well-wishers to come up with such initiatives during the new year celebrations to ensure less fortunate families also celebrate.

Florence Ngoa, a beneficiary and a widow from Msabaha, said they were happy about the support.

Ngoa said they had suffered for a long time due to the prolonged drought.

She said they would not be able to celebrate normally as they used to do in the previous years and thanked Wanje for the initiative.

“We are happy because we have food,” Ngoa said.

Dorris Mwalimu a beneficiary from Ganda said the idea of helping orphans and widows was good as a majority of them are living in poverty.

“We kindly urge the government and other well-wishers to continue supporting them as they are vulnerable and need to survive and access education,” she said.

Mwalimu said they had lost hope and did not know what their children will eat but through the donation, they have been able to get food.

The mother of five, a widow, said life has been very tough because some of her children are in secondary school and financing their education has been a challenge.
