Mombasa cops hunt for three armed gangsters

The robbers shot and injured a shopkeeper, stole Sh100,000 before leaving the scene in a shambles on Tuesday

Police in Mombasa are searching for three gangsters linked to robberies and burglaries in Tudor, Majengo subcounty.

The three on Tuesday shot and injured a shopkeeper and stole Sh100,000 near a chief's office.

The gang arrived on a motorbike at 10pm. The shopkeeper, identified only as Rasta, was shot in the chest and is admitted to Coast General Hospital. 

In another incident, the gangsters raided Mass petrol station, a few metres from  Makupa police station. They shot at attendants in a robbery attempt that was frustrated by the swift response from the police. 

Yesterday, the officers blamed gun attacks and robberies in Jomvu on the gangsters. The police say the criminals operate from Jomvu.

Urban police boss Eliud Monari said, "We've not arrested anyone yet, but are still after them." 

Kisauni police on Tuesday arrested Amir Ismail and Aggrey Enoda who are suspected to be members of Wakali Kwanza gang.

Kisauni police boss Christopher Limo said the two had been on police radar for several months. They were arrested in Kongowea.

Meanwhile, three pupils abducted by a boda boda rider last Saturday will undergo mental examination.

Doctors at Coast General Hospital also want to establish if the 14-year-olds were sexually abused.

The children left their school in Nyali last week but were found in Mavueni, Kilifi county. A suspect is in police custody.
