TANZANIAN music star Diamond Platnumz has triumphed over Kenyan artistes as the highest royalty-earner, in Kenya!

According to the latest distribution by the MCSK, the Number One hit singer raked-in Sh352,807 worth of royalties in just three months making him the top earner and most popular non-Kenyan artiste.

In the period between April and June 2015, only four Kenyan artistes managed to appear in the combined local and foreign top ten list of the highest earners. They were Sauti Sol, Bahati, Lady Wanja and Willy Paul.

“We have noted with concern that majority of Kenyan radio and television stations are broadcasting more of foreign works against the government directive for broadcasting of more local works. This lead to the highest earner being non-Kenyan. MCSK would wish to encourage more radio and TV stations to support local musicians and broadcast the local musicians works so that we can build our local industry even more. It is disheartening to see that only four of our Kenyan musicians were within the top ten list of radio and television stations in Kenya,” says MCSK CEO Maurice Okoth.

In the period, MCSK collected royalties worth Sh30.3 million, where Sauti Sol emerged highest Kenyan earners and most popular group. They were followed by Bahati, Lady Wanja, Willy Paul, Mum Cherop, H-Art The Band, Gloria Muliro, King Kaka, John De Mathew and Hellena Ken respectively. Christina Susho, Ali Kiba, Jose Chameleone, Rose Muhando and Koffi Olomide were among the other foreign high earners in Kenya.
