Claims that Jubilee is planning to fund someone to form the Coast party has divided political leaders in the region. Coast Parliamentary Group chairman Gideon Mung’aro welcoming the idea of sponsorship for the sake of unity.

Mung’aro, who is also the Kilifi North MP, dismissed those opposed to the unity of Coast. He said any person or party is welcome to help in uniting the region.

Speaking during a meeting with Malindi residents on land problems at JCC Mtangani, Mung'aro said Coast people have been divided on political grounds by influential leaders in the national government for decades.

He said that if one was willing to bring them together, it will be an advantage to the region.

“Year in year out, Coast has been used as a political pillar by outsiders. The days to unite have come. The region should be paid well and leaders should stop dividing people with petty politics," Mung'aro said.

The MP accused some Coast politicians of being failures since they did not use their opportunities during their regimes as ministers. He asked them to keep out of the plan.

Mung’aro however denied that Jubilee has devoted to fund the formation of the political party. He said any party willing to fund a Coast party of national outlook will be supported.

Mung'aro said the CGP, which he chairs, held a meeting and resolved to go to the grassroots to preach for unity of Coast before coming up with party affairs.

He said he is still in Cord and decision to quit or not will come at a later stage.

"We are still in ODM. There are party laws. Time will come to move to other parties and this will be mean resigning. I am still in the party but committed to unite the people," he said

On Saturday Mung’aro openly clashed with Kilifi Governor Amason Kingi over the party affairs. Kingi had said some leaders are being used by Jubilee to form the Coast party.

The governor said he will not accept "outsiders" to interfere with Coast affairs by pretending they wanted to unite the locals. He said unity of locals will only be done by the Coast people themselves and not any influential party from outside.

On his part Mung’aro said the governor should stop panicking as he had failed to bring unity of coast despite his strong influence when he was Minister.
