Tana River county Governor Hussein Dhadho yesterday ordered land grabbers to surrender all public land. He promised to recover all land acquired illegally. Speaking in Garsen, Dhadho asked those developing illegally acquired land to stop immediately because they are not the rightful owners.

He said it is unfair for corrupt people to steal public land while wananchi suffer. “We cannot allow such injustice to go on,’’ Dhadho said. The Governor warned that properties on grabbed land will be demolished. Dhadho told NGOs to employ more county residents.

“We shall not allow employees from outside. We want 70 percent of workers in NGO’s to be from the local community,’’ he said. Dhadho said residents should be employed as drivers, clerks and be given contracts such as for bush clearing instead of outsides.

The Governor said he has given the new mango processing plant NGO in Hola 45 days to employ locals. Dhadho said Garsen Hospital shall be upgraded soon. He said there are plans to build a new hospital at Minjila.
