Police in Kirinyaga have launched a manhunt for a suspect alleged to have murdered his mother before going into hiding.

The body of Jane Wamuirua, 56, was found in a pool of blood on her farm in Riakiania on Thursday.

The Riakiania sub-location assistant chief Joseph Nyamu said the incident happened at 8 am and was reported at Baricho police station in Kirinyaga West subcounty.

The administrator said the son picked a quarrel with the mother after she allegedly cleared his coffee bushes, a move that irked him.

The two had not been on good terms and were said to have visited the administrator’s office on Monday to have their longstanding disagreement over their piece of land solved.

The deceased had wanted to sell part of the land but her son opposed the move.

The mother is said to have proceeded to clear the son’s coffee bushes in revenge.

Police said the body was discovered by James Miano, the deceased other son, who informed the assistant chief.

Police the son suspected to have committed the act is still at large.

“The body of the deceased was processed and it was established that it had multiple deep cuts on the neck, a deep cut on the right knee, right hand at the femur, fist and on to the left-hand middle finger was almost falling off,” stated the police report.

It is suspected that injuries were inflicted using a sharp object.

Police recovered a head scarf soaked in blood and a mobile phone.

The body was removed to Kerugoya Referral Hospital awaiting post-mortem.

Subcounty police commander Moses Kosgey appealed to members of the public to volunteer information that would help in the apprehending of the suspect.
