In courts today

The owner of the Embakasi gas plant and three NEMA officials will be arraigned back in court today.

The four will appear before Principal Magistrate Dolphina Alego for further directions following the lapse of 21 days of detention.

They were detained on February 7, after the Prosecution requested time to complete investigations on cases of murder, conspiracy to commit a felony, negligent act and abuse of office.

The plant owner Derrick Kimathi and, NEMA officials Joseph Makau and Marrian Kioko were detained at Embakasi Police Station.

The third suspect, David Ong'are, was held at Capitol Hill Police Station for fewer days with a maximum of 14 days, owing to his medical condition.

Patiala Distillers to file a petition

Patiala Distillers are set to file a petition in the High Court over the destruction of products worth Sh6m.

The distiller behind the products that were destroyed on February 26 by Nyeri residents is set to file a petition against them.

The residents led by Nyeri county leaders raided the Deputy County Commissioner's office and destroyed 34,000 bottles of beer worth Sh4 million confiscated by police in Karatina town on February 21.

On Tuesday, led by their lawyer Danstan Omari, Patiala Distillers denied claims that their products are illicit brews.

Omari said they had written to the Independence Policing Oversight Authority urging them to speedily launch a thorough investigation into the conduct of all the police officers involved in the malicious destruction of the products that were in lawful custody.

The lawyer also intimated their plan to, on Wednesday, sue the said perpetrators.
