Kirinyaga Woman Rep Njeri Maina has launched an initiative to support President William Ruto's agenda of planting 15 billion trees by 2032.
The exercise was held across various sub county.
During the initiative, Njeri donated tree seedlings and energy-saving jikos in partnership with the Ministry of Energy.
"I encouraged the residents of Kirinyaga County to plant more trees in Support of the president's agenda," Njeri said.
"In partnership with the Ministry of Energy, we have distributed over 50,000 seedlings and energy-saving jikos to continue supporting the president in the tree-planting initiative."
Those who benefited from energy-saving jikos were mandated to plant at least 10 trees so that they could help the fight against climate change.
"This initiative will be continuing throughout the year as it is a running program under the office of the woman representative," she said.
"We have been motivated by the fact that citizens were very elated and promised to be sensitive to the environment by undertaking conservation activities and planting trees during this rainy season.
The initiative comes ahead of Monday's tree planting exercise where the government has declared a public holiday to boos tree cover.
Kenyans are expected to take part in tree-planting exercises across the country with CSs tasked with leading the initiative.
