A sickly woman who ran towards President William Ruto's convoy in Kiambu town last week seeking for her hospital bill of over Sh100,000 to be offset, has gotten a relief after her request was met.

Tracy Waithera was admitted at Mayan Lifestyle Hospital in Kiambu town when she heard that Ruto was in town. She managed to sneak through the back door and ran towards where the President's convoy had stopped to address residents.

"I heard that the President is just outside the hospital where I was admitted and  told the doctor to remove the drips that I had saying I wanted to go the toilet. I then sneaked through the back door and went to where the President was addressing the people," Waithera said.

Ruto saw her and stopped his speech asking her what the matter was.

The residents shouted that the woman is sick and wanted medical help. The President said she be let through and Waithera was able to explain her situation and he accepted to help.

President Ruto had toured Kiambu to fundraise for the construction of ACK St James cathedral church in Kiambu town.

Kiambu MP Machua Waithaka has since been sent by the President to offset the Sh103,000 incurred for her treatment.

"Our President is a kind person since he heard the cry of Waithera and has offset her medical bill. I have also chipped in to pay for her rent and shopping as she goes back to her home since she has recovered," Machua said.

Waithera while narrating her story said that early this year, she got into an accident and injured her leg which prompted her to stay at home. She later got sick and developed stomach pains which were persistent, was rushed to hospital and was admitted where she was being treated.

"When I injured my leg through an accident at Kiambu town stage, I had to stay at home and everything was being done for me as I could not walk. I got so stressed which led to me getting ulcers and this is what got me  admitted to hospital," Waithera said.

According to doctor Grace Wambui, Waithera was taken in while in pain and was complaining of stomach pains that had persisted for two weeks. She said through tests, they found out that she was suffering from HPylori.

"We admitted Waithera as she was sick and in pain and we had realised she was not able to pay the bill, but we decided to treat her and we sort the issue of bills later when she gets better," Wambui said.

She said Waithera had an IV drip on and requested that she wanted to go to the toilet and she was still weak.

"The hospital has an exit door and there were electricians working on electricity of the hospital, that's why the door was open. We did not realise that Waithera had sneaked outside as she had said she was going to the toilet and was weak then."

She said after half an hour, Waithera returned to the hospital and informed them that she had gone to see the President and that he has agreed to pay her bill.

Machua said the mass NHIF registration being undertaken by his office will resume after streamlining the process, so that Kiambu constituency residents can have a medical cover they can rely on.
