Police in Murang’a are looking for a 28-year-old man suspected of killing his two sons by slitting their throats.

The suspect is reportedly said to have brutally slaughtered the two boys aged three and seven on Sunday night before fleeing.

Residents said the man had separated from his wife just a week ago and that he was struggling to look after his two sons alone.

But neighbors in the Mugua-nyoni village in Mugoiri, Murang'a said they noticed that the two boys were missing and started looking for them only to find them in the house where they had been killed.

“We got information that he had written a text message to his cousin saying that he had killed his two children and we confirmed it when we forced our way into his house,” a resident said, adding that he is a bhang smoker.

“The suspect had run away by then. We looked for him everywhere and could not find him. We are also yet to establish the whereabouts of his estranged wife."

The suspect's mother who lived in the same compound with the suspect accused him of prompting disagreements between him and his wife.

She said just last week, the suspect beat up his own father while demanding to get a part of his parent’s farm as his inheritance.

“I am asking the police to look for him and arrest him because we are also living in fear,” the mother said.

Mary Waithera, a neighbor, said it was tragic that the suspect ended the lives of two innocent children saying he should face the law for his actions.

Waithera appealed to women to ensure they tag their kids along when they disagree with their husbands as they are natural nurturers and are better able to tend to children

While confirming the incident, area chief Stephen Mwangi said preliminary investigations indicated that the suspect forbid his wife from taking the two children when she left.

He said the suspect is being traced and expressed confidence that he will be apprehended.
