A Police officer at the Kiganjo Police Training College has been charged before a Nyeri court with sexually assaulting a two-year-old girl.

However, the suspect, Sylvester Kirwa, who appeared before resident magistrate Mercyline Lubia, denied the charges.

According to the charges, he is accused of touching the minorā€™s private parts on May 9, 2022, at 8 25 am.

He allegedly committed the crime within the Kiganjo Police Training College premises.

Kirwa was arrested on September 8, 2022, and taken to Kiganjo police station where charges of defilement were preferred against him.

He was later released on Sh20,000 cash bail.

His lawyer Njuguna Kimani pleaded with the court that his client be given a reasonable cash bail or deposit his passport.

However, the prosecution opposed the request saying the accused may tamper with the witnesses.

Kirwa is expected to appear in court on September 27 for mention of the case.
