• He said if the court had ruled in favour of a rerun, Azimio leader Raila Odinga would still have lost in a repeat election.
• Going forward, he said, those who lose in elections should learn to concede defeat instead of taking Kenyans through the tiring court process without evidence of rigging.
Nyeri Governor Mutahi Kahiga has asked the eight elected MPs from the county to urge their colleagues to give President-elect William Ruto's Kenya Kwanza speakers in the Senate and National Assembly.
He said voting for speakers from the alliance would ease the Ruto administration's work towards fulfilling its pledges to Kenyans.
Kahiga spoke in Nyeri town on Monday where he led politicians and residents in celebrating the upholding of the election of Ruto and Deputy President-elect Rigathi Gachagua.
The Supreme Court, he said, made the right decision in validating their win. He said if the court had ruled in favour of a rerun, Azimio leader Raila Odinga would still have lost in a repeat election.
Going forward, he said, those who lose in elections should learn to concede defeat instead of taking Kenyans through the tiring court process without evidence of rigging.
He said Nyeri people will never be forced to elect a leader they do not want.
“We are independent-minded and have the liberty and ability to choose a leader of our choice. We are going to support Ruto and Gachagua to the end,” Kahiga said
He said outgoing President Uhuru Kenyatta tried to mislead the Mt Kenya region, but residents demonstrated that they were done voting for leaders based on tribal lines.
Kahiga said the campaign period is now over and urged all those who lost the election to join hands with winners and work for the good of the county and country.
The governor said Nyeri would hire 50 buses to ferry residents to Nairobi during the swearing-in of Ruto and Gachagua.
Kenya Kwanza government should now work towards fulfilling its pledges of bringing the cost of living down and introducing of the hustlers fund, Kahiga said.
Kahiga was with his deputy David Kinaniri, MPs-elect Maina Mathenge (Nyeri Town), Njoroge Wainaina (Kieni), Geoffrey Wandeto (Tetu) and MCAs.
Mathenge praised the court, saying it has demonstrated that voters have the sovereign power to choose their leaders.
Wainaina said it would have been difficult to work with Azimio government as it would have meant they would have been in the opposition.
Wandeto said they knew from the word go that Raila had no case against Ruto.
“I now call upon Raila to accept the court’s verdict and move on,” he said.
