The New Democrats party Nyeri governor candidate Thuo Mathenge says he has no intentions of challenging the Nyeri governor elections.

He said this is despite some irregularities which he did not disclose.

“I was informed there were some irregularities but I call on those who won to try and implement some of the agendas I had for our people,” he said.

The agendas included having health facilities in the county stocked with drugs and introducing of a feeding programme for Early Childhood Development Education learners.

He called on winners to reach out to those who lost, take what was good in their manifestos and implement them for the Nyeri people.

He said the most important objective for all candidates who were contesting was to serve the people and make their lives better.

Mathenge spoke to the media at the TND party offices in Kaganjo, Nyeri town, on Tuesday.

In 2013, Mathenge was engaged in a court battle with the winner  Nderitu Gachagua (deceased) before losing the case.

In 2017, he was barred from contesting by IEBC over what the electoral body termed as questionable academic credentials.

He was among three other candidates who contested for Nyeri governor seat but the incumbent Mutahi Kahiga won.

Kahiga got 213,373, Mathenge came second with 81,467, former Nyeri Senator Ephraim Maina came third with 26,372 while Peter Munyiri was fourth with 4,497 votes.

Kahiga in his acceptance speech Friday thanked his opponents saying they gave their best despite the competition being trying and testing.

“To my worthy opponents, thank you very much. You gave it your best. I also gave my best but victory can only go to one person,” he said.

“You are sons of Nyeri and I want to promise that I will serve you with dedication.”

He said the campaign period is now over and it is time to focus on the future.

He promised five years of dedication, hard work, commitment and being physically available for the residents and a phone call away.
