Jubilee Kirinyaga governor candidate Charles Kibiru has conceded defeat.

While accepting the outcome before IEBC declares the official results, the outgoing senator in a Facebook post thanked residents, family and his running mate Peter Ndambiri.

"I take this early opportunity to accept and respect the choice of Kirinyaga voters in relation to the just concluded gubernatorial elections where I was a candidate," the post reads in part.

"I wish to thank all my supporters, my electoral team, friends, my running mate Peter Ndambiri and my family for your support during the entire electioneering period."

Kibiru who was the Azimio la Umoja One Kenya Coalition governor flagbearer voted at Getuya Primary School in Ndia .

He was endorsed by the coalition on Saturday after Narc Kenya's Muriithi Kagai accepted to step down in his favour.

However, in a number of polling centres that the Star visited Kagai whose name was still on the ballot garnered several votes.
