Kenya Kwanza alliance running mate Rigathi Gachagua has launched a fresh onslaught against Kieni MP Kanini Kega and urged voters to reject him.

Gachagua met grassroots leaders from Kieni constituency on Monday and told voters to replace the MP with UDA's candidate Njoroge Wainaina.

The meeting was held at the UDA secretariat at Gamerock in Nyeri town.

Gachagua expressed optimism that Deputy President William Ruto’s Kenya Kwanza will beat Raila Odinga-led Azimio la Umoja One Kenya Coalition with more than five million votes.

This, he said was because ANC leader Musalia Mudavadi and his Ford Kenya counterpart Moses Wetang'ula, who supported Raila in 2013 and 2017 have now left him and joined Ruto.

He told the Kieni people that they risk going into the opposition if they  reelect the incumbent for a third term.

He said, out of all Nyeri county MPs, it was only Kega who had issues after he (Rigathi) was picked by DP Ruto as his running mate.

The Mathira MP pledged to connect all homes with water, construct two mega dams in Kariminu and Naromoru and roads in Kieni if Kenya Kwanza wins.

"You risk being in the opposition if you do not elect  UDA candidate. If you follow Kega’s route, Kieni will be an island. Let us support UDA so we can develop the area," he said.

"We also intend to lower the price of fertilisers from over Sh6,000 to Sh2,500."

Azimio, he said, has no agenda for the area, adding that he understands Kieni problems better than both Raila and his running mate Martha Karua.

He called on the voters to elect UDA candidates from governor to MCA to make the executive's job easier.

He claimed Azimio has already sensed defeat and that is why it is attacking IEBC and refusing to participate in the Tuesday presidential debate.

He told the residents to give Wainaina a five-year term and test his leadership skills.

He pledged to work with the county to ensure community health volunteers are remunerated and well equipped to serve people better.

The UDA presidential running mate nominee told Raila and the Azimio team to stop attacking the IEBC.

He also told DCI director George Kinoti to stop meddling with the commission and instead concentrate on fighting insecurity.

National Assembly Speaker Justine Muturi told residents to support Ruto and Rigathi as he is one of their own.

He said Azimio is on a mission of mudslinging IEBC to force the chairman Wafula Chebukati and other commissioners out of office.

He said they will ensure Raila is beaten decisively so that he does not dispute the elections.

"We will send them home and you should help us do that on August 9," he said.

Starehe MP Charles Njagua called on the region to support all UDA candidates and urged them to stand with Rigathi.

Nyeri Governor Mutahi Kahiga and county speaker John Kaguchia were also present.
