Police in Lari are investigating the deaths of four men whose bodies were found at the weekend in Ngubi forest along Nairobi-Maai Mahiu road.
Area subcounty police commander Adamson Furaha said one body was found on Saturday while three were found on Sunday.
Furaha said the bodies were taken to City Mortuary in Nairobi, where postmortems will be conducted.
The incident has left traders operating along the highway worried. They claim more than 10 dead bodies have been collected by police in bushes this year.
Curio shop operators, roast maize sellers and hoteliers say most of the bodies were found naked and appear like they had been tortured.
“There are no homes nearby. All of us commute to this area daily to do our business,” trader Josphat Njugi said.
The traders spoke on Sunday at Kijabe junction where three of the bodies were found.
Area DCI official Eunice Maingi said in May and April five bodies were collected along the highway.
She said they suspect the victims were killed elsewhere and their bodies dumped in the area because no one has ever been identified by residents.
A food kiosk operator Nancy Wanjeri said, “At times, we arrive at our places of work at dawn. I start operating from 6.30am. If these killers happen to spot you, they might kill you.”
“We feel unsafe and ask the police to protect us. We need to pay rent, school fees, feed our families and meet other obligations.”
Njeri said more than 10 bodies have been collected by police since the beginning of the year.
Furaha said they have intensified day and night patrols.
He said they have launched investigations into the incidences to arrest the killers.
