UDA party nominations in Mbeere South in Embu were delayed for the most part of the day after electoral materials failed to arrive in time.

The materials were distributed as late as 4 pm despite the party's earlier directive that polling stations would be closed at 5 pm.

Earlier in the day,  Elgeyo-Marakwet Senator Kipchumba Murkomen said the party will give voters a chance to participate in the polls so long as they were in the polling station at the deadline time.

Murkomen confirmed that there was a delay in the distribution of the ballot boxes and papers to respective destinations amid logistical challenges.

He said there was a slight delay due to the lack of enough logistics caused by the lack of enough vehicles in conjunction with the fuel shortage in the county.

"We'll ensure the materials get to respective places and the primaries will go on as planned," said Murkomen.

While speaking at Jeremiah Nyaga Technical Training Institute, the Mbeere South tallying centre, King'ang'i said accusations among party aspirants caused a delay.

He complained of the senior officers taking so long to settle down the matter thus wasting more time.

"The reason why we have witnessed the late distribution of the polling materials is due to accusations among aspirants and delay from party seniors intervention to solve the matter," said King'ang'i.

He also said the confusion in the presiding officers' list has contributed to delayed polling.

King'ang'i urged the party to consider allowing more time for voters to nominate the candidate of their choice.

In Kangaru primary there was reported low turn up and a challenge in voters register as some missed their names.

This comes as the clerks told the Star Newspaper that this occurred for most voters who claimed to have transferred from their previous polling stations.
