Former Kiambu Governor William Kabogo unveiled his new political outfit dubbed Tujibebe Wakenya Party on Saturday.

The party was recently issued with an interim certificate by the registrar of political parties.

Other parties issued with interim certificates include the National Democratic Expansion Party, Mkenya Daima party, Chama cha Mapatano an Kenya Union Party.

Also the Daraja Development Party, the People National Republican Party, Adopt Development Party, Pamoja African Alliance and Kenya Democratic for Change have been registered.

Kabogo unveiled his new political outfit through his social media pages and urged Kenyans to organise themselves by making the right choices.

He revealed that he would vie for the presidency in 2022 and nothing will stop him from realising his dream.

“Lazima tujipange ahead of 2022 and make the right choices, I have said I will vie for the presidency,” Kabogo said.

Kabogo unsuccessfully vied for the Kiambu governorship in 2017 as an independent candidate after missing out on the Jubilee ticket which went to Ferdinand Waititu.

In an interview on Monday with Star, Registrar of Political Parties Ann Nderitu said Kabogo’s party is among 22 parties issued with interim certificates, awaiting full registration.

The 22 parties were in the process of fulfilling the expected requirements.

A total of 75 political parties in Kenya are now fully registered.

“We have issued Tujibebe Wakenya Party with an interim certificate to help in membership registration and mobilisation exercise," Nderitu said.

To be fully registered, parties are expected to recruit at least 1,000 members in at least 24 counties, open offices in the devolved units, and have their headquarters in one more county.

They are also expected to propose governing bodies and be inspected within the same period, for them to be fully registered.

She revealed that Chama Cha Kazi allied to Gatundu South MP Moses Kuria was last week issued with a full registration certificate as well as the Party of Peace and Democracy, issued with a certificate last month.

Mount Kenya MCA caucus chairman Charles Mwangi Ng’ang’a told the Star on Monday that most parties being registered belong to individuals who dissolved their parties to join Jubilee in 2017.

“Most of these parties felt shortchanged and are in the rush to register parties with similar abbreviations to their former parties," he said.

According to the national chairman Party of Democratic Unity Isaiah Gichu, the mushrooming registration of political parties is an indication that Kenya’s democracy is maturing.

He said that Kenyans will make their choice on which party to support.

“The current mushrooming registration of party is a clear indicator that we are on the right side as it shows that we are maturing in terms of democratic rights, “Gichu said.
