Security officers in Murang’a arrested three people believed to have travelled from Eastleigh estate in Nairobi, which is on lockdown.

County commissioner Mohamed Barre said the three were arrested in Kangema subcounty. They were two adults and a child.

The commissioner said the three were taken to a quarantine centre for 14 days.

The incident occurred just days after eight other people who included a Tanzanian were arrested on their way to Nyeri from Nairobi.

They were arrested at Mukuyu near Murang’a town in a matatu they had boarded in Kenol town, Maragua.

They are said to have crossed the barricade set up near Thika separating Murang’a county from the Nairobi Metropolitan area.

They were four men, three women and a child. They used illegal routes to cross over from the lockdown area, according to the county commander of police Josphat Kinyua.

“The eight were on their way to Nyeri from Nairobi and did not have documents to facilitate their movement from Nairobi county,” Kinyua told the media.

Eighteen other people, he said, were arrested as they attempted to enter Kiambu from Murang’a county.

Police have erected nine roadblocks along the main roads in the county to control people’s movement.

Barre noted that police had sealed all the routes people were using to get in and out of the Nairobi Metropolitan area.

“Some have even been using boats to cross the swollen River Chania to either get into or out of Kiambu county,” he said.

He appealed to residents to provide information on anyone who may get to their villages from areas that have been put on partial lockdown.
