Kiambu Governor Ferdinand Waititu has said he supports the subdivision of Lari constituency.

Waititu asked the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission to subdivide the constituency into Lower Lari and Upper Lari after the August census.

Statistics at the constituency headquarters indicate that the constituency has a population of approximately 100,000 residents.

Waititu said Kamburu and Nyanduma wards should be merged to form Lower Lari since residents complain of being sidelined.

He said Lari Kirenga, Kijabe and Kinale wards should be merged to form Upper Lari.

"The wards will also be subdivided to retain five wards in each constituency," Waititu added.

He was speaking on Wednesday at Kambaa trading centre in Kijabe ward, where he commissioned the construction of the Sh50 million Kireita-Kambaa road.

Waititu was accompanied by Deputy Governor James Nyoro and MCA Nyutu Wamwere, among other leaders.

He said residents from Lower Lari claim the two wards have never produced an MP and that all major offices are in Kimende town, which is in Upper Lari.

"We have realised it is true that none of the MPs who have served the constituency came from either Nyanduma or Kamburu. Deputy county commissioners, subcounty commissioner, police, including all those of the division level, are all in Upper Lari," he said

Wamwere urged all residents to participate in the August census.
