AHADI Kenya is set to launch an insurance scheme to cater for the health and education of jigger infested children. CEO Stanley Kamau said the jigger menace has affected the health of many schoolchildren.

He said the worsening sitaution has had a negative impact on the children’s academic performance. Kamau said the new policy will ensure children receive funds to cater for their secondary school education because primary school education is free. “We need to ensure that jigger infested children continue with their education even after primary school education,” he said.

Kamau said the health policy will ensure patients receive proper medical attention in health facilities. He was said pupils and students are more vulnerable to jigger infestion. Kamau was speaking in Maragua during an antijigger medical camp on Saturday.

Kamau noted with concern that most of this kids who come from poor background are bright but the financial constrains deprive them chance to continue with their education to the next level.

“Many of the children who have been affected by jiggers perform well in their exams but due to lack of fees they are forced to stay back home and this only pushes them further in to poverty” he remarked. Kamau said he will identify insurance companies seeking to partner with them to implement the programme.
