Man, 44, mauled to death by 4 German Shepard dogs in Kisumu

The Owner of the dogs is currently in custody as police investigate the matter.

A 44-year-old man has been mauled to death by four German Shepard dogs in Rabuor, in Kisumu county.

The dogs bite the deceased David Opinya deeply on the neck, lower right armpit and severally on the whole body.

The incident happened on Sunday morning.

According to a police report, the matter was reported by one Joash Odhalo Gombe, a medical staff working within Kisumu and the owner of the dogs.

Gombe reported that while he was asleep at his residence, he received a call from his neighbor Bob Kerah informing him that his dog had attacked and killed the deceased David Opinya a resident of the same village.

The scene was visited by Stapol Rabuor, DCIO Nyando Officers and CSSI Kisumu.

According to the police report, it was established that the deceased left Rabuor town at unknown time to his home and while passing the footpath along the chain link fence of the reportee, the four dogs chased him mistaking him for a criminal.

"As he ran away from them, they caught up with him 500 meters away from the compound and attacked him," read the report.

The deceased succumbed to the injuries.

On receiving the message, the owner of the dogs escaped to the police station for his safety.

Meanwhile angry members of the public entered his homestead with view of destroying the home but the local administration officials assisted by police officers salvaged the situation.

The locals turned wild and killed all the dogs using pangas and stones.

The body has been moved to Jaramogi Oginga Odinga Teaching and Referral Hospital Morgue pending postmortem.
