Ports Sacco, formerly Mombasa Port Sacco has opened a branch in Nairobi as it targets to recruit members across the country.
The new branch located at the InlandContainer Depot (ICD) Nairobi s part of Port DT Sacco’s expansion measures and drive targeted at having presence in all the 47 counties.
Further, the expansion is a commitment to resolve and adapt to meeting the changing needs of Port Sacco members through innovative products and services.
Speaking during the official opening ceremony, Commissioner for Co-operatives David Obonyo praised the move, saying with a loan book of Sh5 billion, it will play a huge role in serving the Nairobi business community and other micro credit institutions.
“I welcome Ports Sacco in Nairobi County as they seek to expand their territory and assure them,the Ministry of Co-operatives is fully behind their operations that will see them participate in the uplifting people’s standards in Kenya's capital.
Port DT Sacco CEO Dedan Ondieki said the institution will continue to invest heavily in relevant technologies and solutions to not only better serve its members but to also ensure the Sacco keeps abreast with industry trends.
“We are excited about what the future holds for Ports Sacco and are confident that the opening ofNairobi ICD branch will serve as a gateway to our efforts to forge further inland and serve more members wherever they are with equity, consistency and care”.
The Sacco's chairman Alfred Konde termed the move to open an office in Nairobi as a significant step towards achieving the Sacco’s objectives of providing its members with unparalleled financial services.
"As Chairman of the Board, I am very proud to see how far we have come as an organisation,'' Konde said.
Part of the innovative products and services that the Port is currently providing to its members include the introduction of Micro Loans segment to support small scale traders and self-registration through the port’s website.
The Sacco industry contributes 45 per cent of the national GDP directly and indirectly and a further 30 per cent of national savings and deposits. Giving direct employment to over 500,000 people.
The Sacco has been in existence for the past 57 years.
