Kenya Airways (KQ) has unveiled a loyalty program in a bid to attract more customers amidst the dwindling fortunes.

The programme dubbed 'Asante Rewards' aims at rewarding customers who use KQ flights or its partners through redeemable points.

Through the program, customers can redeem their points for benefits such as reward ticket flights, seat upgrades, extra baggage allowance, priority services, and seat selections among others.

Speaking Wednesday during its official launch, Company's CEO Allan Kivakula said this was in line with their commitment to innovate and develop products and services that ensure "to enhance and delightful customer end-to-end experience".

"Asante Rewards is a unique African product created from years of research, customer feedback, and best practices from across the globe.

"For 46 years, millions of customers have chosen us, they have trusted us as their airline of choice and enabled us to win multiple awards and recognition as the Pride of Africa. It is now time for us as Kenya Airways to say Asante our customers in a very special way,” he said.

The program offers customers four tiers- Silver, Ruby, Gold, and Platinum which they can grow into as they accrue their points.

Each one offers unique benefits and privileges to ensure customers have a more rewarding experience when traveling with the carrier.

Transport Cabinet Kipchumba Murkomen who spoke during the event lauded the airline on its contribution to Africa’s aviation industry.

According to Murkomen, the value of loyalty programs was evident during the COVID-19 pandemic period.

"Some airlines used the valuation of such programs to access multi-billion dollars in loans," he stated.

The CS also underscored the value of the carrier to the economy noting there are plans to ensure it gets back on track so that it can generate the required revenue.

"Even as we support the expansion of KQ in the continent and beyond, we are alive to the challenges...we are working with the management and the governments of destination countries to find effective lasting solutions to this issue and enhance the stability, sustainability, and profitability of the airline," he said.

The carrier is said to contribute close to five per cent of Kenya’s GDP and supports 5,000 direct jobs and upwards of 400,000 indirect jobs.

The government, Murkomen added, is on the path to implementing a National Aviation Policy whose aim is to make Kenya’s aviation sector competitive on the global stage.

According to the CS, the policy will foster the growth of the aviation business in the country and create an enabling environment for job creation in the sector.

"This policy will ensure airlines have the freedom to take advantage of market opportunities particularly within the African Continental Free Trade Area as in line with Vision 2030 in the path to growth," he stated.
