Kenya Electricity Generating Company(KenGen) has advertised the managing director position, six months after the appointment of Abraham Serem in an acting capacity.

In a public notice, the KenGen board says the selected candidate will be responsible for providing strategic and visionary leadership and bear full operational responsibility as approved by the board in order to achieve the company's goals.

"The position is on a contract form of three years, renewable once, subject to performance and retirement age,'' the board says.

The ideal candidate must satisfy aspects in Chapter 6 of the constitution and have at least 15 years of proven experience in a large organisation and five years at the executive management level.

The position fell vacant after the appointment of Rebecca Miano to the Cabinet by President William Ruto in September last year.

She is the Cabinet Secretary (CS) for East African Community (EAC), Arid and Semi-Arid Lands, and Regional Development.

Miano had served close to six years as KenGen MD since her official confirmation to the position on November 1, 2017.

She too had served in an acting position after the retirement of Albert Mugo who was at the helm for three years.

The board picked an insider, Abraham Serem to hold the brief. Until then, he was the general manager of human resources and administration.

While some board members are favouring the confirmation of Serem, others are looking for an outsider with the hope of disrupting the status quo at the country's biggest power generator.

Those interested in the position are expected to submit applications to the office of board chairman by May 15.
