We sometimes forget our passwords which deny us access to our different accounts.

The option that we have is either to create a new account or change the password.

To avoid this, there is a password-managing app called Bitwarden.

Bitwarden implements a password generator and helps you import passwords from other services. It also supports two-factor authentication and secure password sharing.

The two-factor authentication enhances the security of your stored passwords.

When you enable it, it shows a warning at the top of the page about how the company cannot help you regain access to your account if you lose your two-factor authentication device.

Setting it up is easy. You just need to snap the QR code with your authenticator app of choice.

You can host your passwords locally on Windows, macOS and Linux devices. You can also configure how long it takes for access to time out and what happens at that point.

It generates six reports namely exposed passwords, reused passwords, weak passwords, unsecured passwords, inactive two factor and data breach. Exposed passwords are those that have been uncovered in known data breaches.

It has a random password generator that creates passwords containing upper and lower-case letters and digits but no special character. The user is advised to check the box to add special characters since it is a requirement for many sites.

The generator ranks out passwords from five to 128 characters long. On Android, it defaults to 15 characters and uses all character sets by default.

In contrast, other password generators such as Myki password generator, it defaults to more than 30 characters.

It stores two kinds of personal data items; cards and identities. Each identity saves a simple collection of personal data including names, snail-mail addresses, email, and phone numbers.

The Send feature simplifies sharing and you can send an encrypted link to anyone using your preferred communication method. The files you send can include up to 500MB or up to 100MB if you are uploading from the phone.

The free users can share notes because those accounts do not include any encrypted file storage. During set up for the Send feature, you can specify an expiration date, deletion date and maximum access limit.

There are reporting features for businesses that are seeking enterprise-level password protection. They give the administrator an idea of the overall password health of their teams.

It captures credentials during account creation and handles some password change events.

Single sign-on is also one of the features it has that eliminates the need for multiple usernames and passwords. If an attacker gets a hold of single sign-on credential, they have access to all the user’s applications, which is risky.

Luckily, teams and business Bitwarden accounts have a multifactor login for the organization users.
