Kenya Harlequin are on the hunt for a new head coach following the departure of Paul “Pau” Murunga, whose contract officially ended on May 1, 2025.
The club announced that the decision to part ways was mutual and amicable, marking the close of a significant chapter in the team’s recent history.
Murunga, who took charge in May 2022, leaves behind a legacy of success and transformation. During his tenure, he led Quins to several victories, including the National 7s Circuit, Driftwood 7s, Ingo 7s, and the Mwamba Cup.
His efforts earned him the “Spirit of Rugby Shield” at the club’s 2023 annual dinner.
Reflecting on his time at the club, Murunga expressed gratitude. “It’s been an honour to coach this great team. I’ll always hold Quins close to my heart,” he said.
Club Chairman Victor Sudi praised Murunga’s leadership and contribution: “Paul brought passion and deep rugby knowledge. We’re thankful for his three years and wish him all the best in his coaching journey.”
Director of Rugby Joel Nganga added, “Paul leaves as a winner. He revitalised the men’s squad and helped reestablish women’s and youth rugby at the club. His name is cemented in Quin's history.”
Beyond his role at Quins, Murunga has had a decorated coaching career. He worked with Kenya’s U20 sides in both 7s and 15s, served as assistant coach during Kenya’s 2016 Singapore 7s triumph, and later became head coach of the national 7s team in 2018.
At the club level, he led Homeboyz RFC to multiple titles, including two National 7s Circuit wins and the Enterprise Cup.
As the 2024/2025 season wraps up, Kenya Harlequin is conducting a full review and plans to unveil a restructured management team soon.
