Nairobi County Executive Committee Member Anastasia Nyalita wants motorsports enthusiasts to tour the various tourist destinations before and after the WRC Safari Rally set for March 28-31.
Nyalita, who is in charge of Inclusivity, Public Participation and Customer Service, said Nairobi and Nakuru counties — where the rally will be held— have key tourist attractions that should offer more fun for drivers, crews and spectators.
Highlighting Nairobi’s cultural heritage and tourism attractions —being the only city in the world with a National park — would be key, she observed.
“We have a lot of tourist attractions in Nairobi. The Nairobi nightlife is among the best. Lonely Planet rated Nairobi as the number one city to visit in 2024,” she stated.
In addition, Nairobi County is keen on promoting itself as a long-term investment destination.
"We have engaged with investors who have settled in Kenyan even after sampling other countries," she said. "We are happy to provide a conducive environment to live in and work."
“The local (small) businessmen will also benefit in one way or another,” she explained, adding that the Masaai market can also be a way for traders to invite exporters.
They are, alongside Nakuru County, ready to deliver a world-class event.
“We are very delighted to be the host county for the WRC Safari Rally, alongside Nakuru County. We are ready to showcase what Nairobi has to offer,” she noted.
The County is working with the national government to ensure the safety and security of all involved in the Safari — drivers, crews and spectators.
“We work closely with the (national) government on security. We have a county security team that will also be deployed before and during the competition,” Nyalita added.
The Safari will be flagged off at the KICC, Nairobi, while the closing stage and award ceremony is slated for Hell's Gate National Park in Nakuru.
