Top chess clubs converge for the Kenya National Chess League showdown this weekend at the KCB Sports Club.
Chess Kenya league secretary Anthony Kionga said: "The upcoming league fixtures promise a captivating and intense competition, where every move will count.”
The Premier League showdown promises cut-throat competition as players battle for supremacy. Equity top the log with an impressive 28 points from nine wins, a draw, and a single loss.
Defending champions KCB are a close second with 27 points from nine victories and one loss and have a game in hand. Nakuru are third on 21 points from nine games.
Meanwhile, the Super League will equally be competitive with Mavens Tacticians emerging as the team to beat. They remain unbeaten and are perched atop the leaderboard with 27 points from nine games.
Their junior counterparts, Mavens Warriors, are up there with them, with 24 points from nine games and are equally eyeing the crown. On the other hand, the Kisumu-based Victoria Chess Club are currently unbeaten in third place with 22 points from eight games.
“Mavens Tacticians and Victoria will be seeking to maintain their unbeaten runs while Mavens Warriors will be out to maintain the top position. Defending Champions, KCB are also in the mix for the top gong," said Kionga
On the other hand, the top three teams in the Super League will have their sights on promotion to the Premier League, while the bottom three teams in the Premier League will be fighting to avoid relegation.
With so much at stake and intense rivalry heating up, the chess league is shaping up to be a true battle of wits and strategies.
