The presidential advisor on education, Dr Kilemi Mwiria, recently walked down the aisle to renew vows with his wife of 32 years Dr Sarah Kilemi, with whom they have two sons. Dr Sarah is a development economist. The ceremony was held at the rural home of the couple in Ngundune, Meru County.
The matrimonial affair was preceded by another celebration in the same venue, that of their grandmother Mama Teresa Ciomborothi, who was celebrating her 121st birthday.
The birthday party was presided over by Father Limo Riwa of St Francis Catholic Church in Nchiru, who said the current African Culture is very difficult for people to grow old and reach the years beyond 100.
Riwa said the lifespan of many people has been cut short by poor feeding habits and stress, which is a key cause of illnesses.
“This woman, if you ask her, she will tell you she has lived a life free of stress and free of narcotic drugs and feeding well. Of importance is giving thanks to God and appreciating everybody in your circles,” he said.
After the holy mass, the wedding ceremony kicked off and proceeded into the night where the bride and bridegroom were escorted to the aisle by their two sons Karithi Kilemi and Mwenda Kilemi and the mothers of the couple, Zipporah Mbui and Jenniffer Lithira.
Karithi, an American citizen, had travelled to participate in the wedding. Mwenda Kilemi is a lecturer at the Nairobi University.
On celebration of Mama Teresa’s birthday, Dr Sarah said the granny could possibly be ranked among the world’s oldest people by the Guinness Book of records.
