A suspect was attacked and killed at a gold mine site after claiming he robbed miners of cash and minerals in Merti, Isiolo County.
Police said the incident happened Sunday evening at the Kom-Durte gold mining site.
The suspect and two others are said to have attacked a woman operating near the gold mine site and robbed her of cash and an unknown amount of gold.
An alarm was raised alerting locals who chased and caught up with two of the suspects.
They beat up and killed one while the other one was rescued by police.
Police said the deceased had stab wounds on his body and that Sh15,620 and 5.8 grams of gold were found on him.
The injured suspect was taken to hospital while the body was moved to the local mortuary.
Elsewhere in Dabel, Moyale, Marsabit County, police recovered a Carbine rifle with six bullets from a robbery suspect who tried to rob a gold dealer.
The suspect with another accomplice had raided the Hilo mining site and tried to rob miners of their cash there.
According to police, the suspects had attacked a shopkeeper at Hilo Gold mine and tried to rob him of cash and gold.
It was then that he raised the alarm prompting members of the public to respond, whereby they managed to arrest and disarm the two suspects, police said.
One of the suspects is an Ethiopian, police said.
The weapon they had was confiscated for ballistic tests to establish if it had been used in crimes in the area, police said.
Police say there is a general increase in crime in areas around gold mining sites.
This is associated with the activities there and especially the circulation of money.
And to address the menace, more officers have been sent to the area, police said.
