Narc Kenya leader Martha Karua has reiterated her stand that she does not recognise William Ruto as the President.

In an interview with NTV Tuesday night, Karua said the Kenya Kwanza government is an illegitimate regime.

"There is no regime that has ever defeated the collective will of the people. I don't recognise Ruto as President," she said.

On the Finance Bill, she noted that the Azimio la Umoja Coalition will watch how members of Parliament will redeem themselves in the third reading of the Finance Bill 2023.

The lawmakers were on Tuesday deliberating on amendments clause by clause and had already taken a vote to retain 5 per cent tax on digital content.

"We do not rely on Parliament, we are watching and we will take action. When an important debate is going on in Parliament, I don't understand why an MP wouldn't decline a foreign trip and contribute to the debate," Karua added.

This is the second time Karua is declaring that she does not recognise the Ruto administration or the President's legitimacy.

In November 2022, Karua insisted that only the law recognises Ruto as Head of State but not her.

She said she respects Supreme Court's verdict on the Azimio presidential petition although she disagreed with the judgment saying justice given in court might not represent the truth.

"The law recognises him and I don't. He's the president courtesy of the law. I do not have to over-praise that position. I said I respect the court verdict but totally disagree with it," she said.

According to Karua, the August 9 presidential election results were manipulated.

"I still stand here to say that the results were doctored and that's a personal position. You cannot stop my brain from working, you cannot force me to believe. My belief is not subject to the law. It is subject to my conscience but giving way to the law is obeying the law.
