Drug abuse among Kenyan youth remains a major public health concern, with the national prevalence standing at 17.5 per cent.

The highest rates are recorded in Nyanza and Nairobi, each at 20.7 per cent and 19.2 per cent respectively, while North Eastern reports the lowest at 7.6 per cent.

Males (30.7%) are significantly more affected than females (6.4%), and rural areas (17.8%) slightly surpass urban ones (17%).

Alarming trends show that one in every 20 youths aged 15–24 is using alcohol, while one in every 37 is using cannabis.
